What's the archive for?
The archive supports featured choreographers and dancers by facilitating global access to their work. By passing a link via email or web page, artists can self-promote, expand their audience, share work with other artists and even educate. As the archive aggregates the work of hundreds of NYC artists, it could become a popular resource and trigger international serendipity - invitations to perform and teach, collaborations, etc.

Why not just post all the video on Youtube.com?
Eventually it might make sense to host the archive on Youtube.com or some other video site, but for now the Artist house, Inc. servers are easier to manage and the quality can (potentially) be much higher. Choreographers retain copyright to thier work and are free to distribute the video however they wish.

Why does the video look blocky or fuzzy?
A fast connection to the internet via ISDN or cable modem is important. If your connection is slow or there are other internet processes happening on your network, the video won't be able to get the highest data transfer. Try checking out the archive from a location that has high speed internet access.

What does Dan Kelly get out of it?
As I continue to offer documentation services, the archive could be thought of as my mega demo reel. Certainly 100 hours of video is overkill if getting jobs is my only goal. The effort required to format the video for the web and maintain the site is not insignificant. So why go to all this trouble? I believe it's useful to the featured artists and I like knowing the work persists, that it's "out there". I am curious to see what will happen - that's the geek talking.

Why does the archive need support?

The costs of establishing and maintaining the archive are covered by Artist house, Inc. as a community service. Additional financial support demonstrates the existence of an audience that appreciates and enjoys what the archive has to offer. Future grant proposals for enhancing the archive might rely on this demonstration. Featured artists who are actively sharing the links might consider contributing $5 or $10 for a year. Dance lovers can make a contribution of any amount - up to $2000 US! Amounts over $100 can be tax deductible, call for details.

Eventually, contributions to dance.artisthouse.com will be reported on the support page along with a balance sheet showing revenues and expenses for the archive.

What's left to do?
Post the rest of the archive from 2004 to the present with program information. That's about 80 more hours of video. Improve the archive based on artist and audience feedback.

Can the archive be listed by dancer?
Not yet, but that's a good idea. Currently the archive can be listed by time or by choreographer. Individual dancers can aggregate their own work by finding all the video that relates to them and then including links to those pages in an email or on their own web site.
